Induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSCs)

Pluripotent stem cells are stem cells which can differentiate into cells of any tissue type in the body. Pluripotent stem cells can essentially be used to develop an entire organism. Pluripotent stem cells have traditionally been hard to source, as the only traditional source of pluripotent stem cells has been embryonic stem cells, which are derived from embryos.

Induced pluripotent stem cells make sourcing stem cells easier, as they are produced by inducing ectopic expression of certain genes in non-embryonic cells. Induced pluripotent stem cells, like natural pluripotent stem cells, can be used to produce an entire organism.
